This is a pattern for a lacy shoulder cowl. The finished cowl measures 10 inches X 57 inches. Both of the lace stitches come to us from Estonia. The edging stitch is slightly more familiar than the gathered lace stitch that is used as the focal stitch. The cowl is knitted in the round. The lace cowl can be worn as a spring garment, draping over your shoulders in a way that won’t fall off. Or it can be made to be warmer, by wrapping it around your neck and shoulders. However, you may have a favorite way to wear cowls that’s different from mine. The lace stitch is a very open one, so it is suitable for at least three seasons, in addition to being very feminine.

The lace stitches are both charted, and written out line by line. There are also instructions for an optional crocheted edging, contained within the pattern.

Skill Level: Intermediate (assuming a good working knowledge of both knitting, purling, and cable knitting.)

The yarn used in the sample is made with Warfdale Woolworks Merino Tencel Lace weight yarn, carried doubled, and sold on Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/shop/WharfedaleWoolworks). A fingering weight yarn could easily be substituted.

The wrap was expertly pattern tested by Rebecca Wood who can be reached at: (rkwood16@gmail.com), who is known on Ravelry as Rebs16.
