Volare is a delicate blouse with dramatic dolman (batwing) sleeves reminiscent of the 1980’s. Hence the name Volare, which means ‘to fly’ in Latin. The blouse is designed with minimalist, elegant details such as rolled edges and stockinette stitch. The combination of cotton, linen and silk adds gravity to the fabric and a beautiful drape to the big sleeves.

CONSTRUCTION
The back is worked first, then stitches are picked up for the front, and the piece is worked separately. Stitches are picked up for the sleeves, which are first worked flat, then in the round. The pattern includes no difficult techniques, but it is recommended that you are familiar with picking up stitches, magic loop and decreasing.

LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY
The pattern is considered intermediate in level of difficulty.

SIZES

Example: If you measure 84 cm / 33” across the chest, choose a size 1 for a positive ease of 20 cm /7.9”.

YARN AND GAUGE
The blouse shown in the photos is worked in 1 strand of Bomulin (65% cotton & 35% linen, 210 m/50 g) col. 0 and 1 strand of silk mohair (75% super kid mohair & 25% silk, 212 m/25 g) col. E0, both from Isager Yarn.

Estimated yarn amounts
6 (6) 7 (8) 9 balls of Bomulin
6 (6) 7 (7) 8 balls of Silk mohair

Approximate yarn amount in meters – per strand:
1100 (1150) 1350 (1450) 1550 m.

Note: The amount of yarn needed is always an estimate and varies from knitter to knitter depending on many factors. Use the estimates given and always consider whether you want to add length or make several swatches and factor this extra yarn in before buying.

Yarn alternative: Bomulin can be replaced with yarns like Trio 2 or Japansk Bomuld (Japanese Cotton), and the silk mohair can be replaced with Alpaca 1 (all Isager Yarn).
Whenever you use an alternative yarn than the one stated in the pattern, make sure to swatch to ensure that you meet gauge.

Suggested needles:
3.5 mm / US 4 circular needle (40-80 cm / 16-32”)
2.5 cm / US 1 circular needle (80 cm / 32” for magic loop – or double pointed needles).

Gauge: 22 sts x 32 rows in stockinette stitch on 3.5 mm / US 4 = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4” after washing.
