Voyage turns your yarn stash into a colorful cardigan. Every skein becomes part of the story as colors shift and blend across the body. It’s a project made for knitters who like to play with color and watch a pile of leftovers turn into something cohesive and wearable.
Worked in fingering weight yarn, the fabric is lightweight but warm, and the finished sweater layers easily over everyday clothes. The colorwork keeps your attention with easy color changes, short floats and fun to knit geometric motifs.
Design Details
Voyage is all about color. The stranded motifs travel across the body while solid hems and sleeves frame the palette and pull everything together. Each version ends up looking completely different depending on the yarn choices.
It’s a true stashbuster cardigan designed to make use of single skeins and leftovers with a classic fit.
Pattern Highlights
- A true stashbuster project
- Engaging colorwork knitting
- Lightweight cardigan you can layer year round
- Each sweater turns out completely unique
Construction Overview
Voyage Cardigan is worked seamlessly from the bottom up. The ribbed hem is worked flat, then a steek is added and the body is worked in the round in stranded colorwork.
At the underarm, stitches are cast off and armhole steeks are added. Armhole and neckline shaping are worked as you approach the shoulders. Shoulder short rows improve fit and the shoulders are closed using a three needle bind off.
After cutting the steeks, sleeves are picked up and worked in the round with short row shaped sleeve caps. The button band and collar are picked up and worked flat to finish the cardigan.
Yarn Notes
Voyage works best with fingering weight yarns and a mix of colors. We recommend weighing your yarn and using as many scraps as you like. The pattern is written in grams so you can comfortably use leftovers.
High contrast colors make the motifs pop, but softer palettes create a blended, tapestry-like look. Both work beautifully.
