Vøyenfallen
Vøyenfallen is a triangular shawl that’s a riff on the traditional Shetland hap. The garter stitch body is worked sideways on the bias. Then stitches are picked up around the sides for the lace border -- a variation on the traditional Shetland Old Shale pattern. Finally, it’s finished with a simple crochet loop edging.
The shawl’s name refers to a series of waterfalls on the Aker River in Oslo, Norway. In the past, a grain mill, commercial weaving studio and cotton mill were located next to these waterfalls.
Originally designed for Biscotte Yarns, this pattern calls for 3 skeins of Biscotte’s La Douce, a handdyed merino/cashmere/nylon blend. It’s knitted at a fairly dense gauge, which gives excellent stitch definition for the lace border.
The pattern is available in English and French. It has been tech edited.
