Water Bear (Tardigrade)
This project is inspired by the Tardigrade, which is also called Water Bear or Moss Piglet.
This pattern is customizable: Different colored yarn and number of segments can be changed for the desired style. Ears and nose could be made in different colors or skipped completely.
For example, I made a version in the Asexuality Flag colors, without ears, so the amigurumi looks more like a caterpillar.
This could be considered a Beginner-Friendly Patten, even for those starting their Amigurumi or crochet journey. Detailed instructions for every stitch type used.
This pattern uses US terms (alternative UK terms also available inside).
Materials and Tools:
• Crochet hooks: 3.5mm (E) or 4mm (F6).
• Worsted weight-yarn. Two (2) main colors- one for the nose/mouth, and another for the main body. Optionally, more colors can be used for different body segments.
• Two (2) safety-eyes. I used 6mm black safety eyes. Alternatively, the eyes could be embroidered onto the project, for example using a French Knot technique, with any yarn or embroidery floss.
• Scissors/ yarn shears/ nippers (to cut ends of yarn).
• Tapestry needle (to help weave in the ends).
• Polyfil amigurumi stuffing (A small handful. Use hook or scissors to help insert the stuffing into the body).
• Removable Stitch markers (to help mark to the beginning of the round and wanted stitches).
Final product measures at around: 7cm3.5cm3.7cm ~ 2.5inch1.4inch1.5inch.
Size may differ due to personal crocheting tension, hook size and type of yarn used.
