Weldon's Fluted Scarf
An 1897 insertion pattern from Weldon’s Practical Needlework was the basis for this scarf. Weldon’s original engraving gave no hint of the extreme texture made by a lot of short rows. These deep ridges could be made more uniform if sewn with a stitch down the ridge centers. I can also envision beads tucked and sewn in the deep valleys. This pattern might just spark some knitting ideas for you, too! There are 32 stitches and 8 pattern rows. The scarf is 6 inches wide at gauge.
Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, YO, YO twice, k2tog, SHORT ROWS and bind off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
45 yards of Wool of the Andes sport weight yarn will make 10 inches of this scarf at gauge.
