This long cowl is knit flat, then grafted together into a loop scarf long enough to wrap around one’s neck twice. The stitch pattern is adapted from Barbara Walker’s “Welting Fantastic,” which can be found in her Treasury of Knitting Patterns. The pattern is easily memorized, using just knits, purls, increases, and decreases to create waves of garter stitch. A clean selvedge edge is created by slipping the first stitch of each row. I used a springy, hand-dyed superwash merino wool yarn in a DK weight for a soft, easy-care garment with great stitch definition.
