This is a triangular shawl with an illusion of a leaves when viewed from an angle. This is constructed sideways, from one wing tip to the other. As per illusion knitting, it looks like alternating stripes when viewed perpendicularly, but will reveal a leaves motif when viewed from an angle.

The gauge is a loose restriction, needle to yarn choices are more vital. I suggest using a heavy DK to Worsted yarn and using the recommended needle on your yarn label (for 100% wool) or a needle 1mm (1 to 2 sizes smaller) smaller than the yarn label (for cotton, cotton blends, and acrylic). Avoid fuzzy, halo, and textured yarn.

The finished product will be around 5.5 feet to 6 feet wide and 2.5 feet to 3 feet tall.

You will need at least two contrasting colors to create the illusion pop.

This project uses a simple triangular shawl as its canvas. Beyond standard knitting and purling, the construction requires only

• M1R (Make 1 Right)
• SSK (Slip Slip Knit)
• K1B / KTBL (Knit Through the Back Loop for a clean, crisp edging)
