Willow Garden Fingerless Mitts
This pattern is adorned with a decorative motif that was inspired by lattice style garden fences made of braided willow, which adds just enough detail to feel special. These soft and warm fingerless mitts make a great go-to winter accessory or cherished gift. Perfect for adding extra warmth while still keeping fingers free for everyday tasks like typing, knitting, using your phone, drawing, etc.
Knitted in the round from the bottom up with a 2x2 rib cuff, decorative stitch pattern at the wrist (both written instructions and a chart are included for the decorative stitch), stockinette for the hand section, another decorative stitch pattern at the top of the hand that mirrors the one at the wrist, and a 2x2 rib top cuff and thumb that end just before the knuckles. Italian cast on and Italian sewn bind off are used in this pattern, but any other stretchy cast on and/or bind off may be used if preferred.
The length of the cuffs may be easily modified to be shorter or longer according to your preference by adding or subtracting rounds of rib.
A single pair of mitts uses less than 50g of fingering weight yarn, so this pattern is great for using up single skeins and project leftovers! I love the airy and luxurious softness of the Camellia Fiber Co Sylvan Fingering yarn, but any fingering weight yarn of your preference or that you have in stash may be substituted.
Sized for a Womens Medium - fits a hand with a circumference of 7”/18cm (measured around palm, excluding the thumb) and a wrist circumference of 6”/15.5cm. To adjust size you can size up or size down your needle to adjust the gauge, use a heavier or lighter weight yarn, or you can add or subtract stitches. If adjusting the stitch count, do so in multiples of 8.
Knitted from the bottom up, magic loop technique is recommended.
Full written instructions as well as materials list and all necessary information is included the downloadable PDF.
