Willow Vest
A classic layering piece, the Willow vest is designed with a high v-neck and wide 1x1 rib trims. It’s knitted in stocking stitch with chunky yarn so it works up quickly, making it a great project for knitters of all skill levels.
It’s worked in the round, from the bottom up, with the neck and armhole trims picked up and knitted in the round.
The pattern provides easy-to-follow detailed instructions using the following techniques:
Optional Italian cast on and off, knitting in the round, knit, purl, knitting flat, decreasing, picking up stitches, cast off, invisible seaming.
Skill Level: Easy.
Sizing: 8 sizes (XS-4X) see size guide. Alice wears size 2 (S).
Yarn: Chunky weight yarn with a standard stocking stitch tension of approx. 13sts. You will need approx. 360g/450m [390g/488m, 432g/540m, 475g/594m, 534g/668m, 577g/722m, 622g/778m, 668g/835m]. We used:
4 [4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7] balls of Shepherd’s Delight Chunky Wool in Peat - 100% British Wool. (125m/132 yd per 100g ball.)
Alternative yarn suggestions: New Lanark Chunky Wool, Jamieson’s of Shetland Marl Chunky, Fonty Pole, Wool and the Gang Alpachino Merino, Drops Andes.
Suggested Needles:
5mm/US 8 circular knitting needles, length 60- 80cm/24-32’’ and 40-50cm/16-20’’.
6.5mm/US 10.5 circular knitting needles, length 80-100cm/32-40’’.
Gauge: Stocking stitch on 6.5mm/US 10.5 needles:
10cm/4’’ x 10cm/4’’ = 13 stitches x 18 rows
