This great, fun and trendy knit is a good “next stage” project for a beginner. If you know how to do knit stitch, you will learn to increase (yo) and decrease (k2tog) to make a square from corner to corner (C2C) - increasing to halfway, then decreasing to the other corner. You can do it!
To make the size in the pattern, I knitted 54 squares in total using Aran weight yarn and 5mm (US 8) needles. The pattern repeat contains 9 small squares, which are joined to make one big square; make 6 of these before joining to complete an Afghan.
The Afghan size can be altered by using different weight yarn and different size needles, also knitting more/less squares or increasing/ decreasing more/less rows.
Crochet is a great way to join together all squares, giving to your blanket more structure. However, if you want your seams to be less visible use mattress st, or any other you prefer.

SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate.
Stitches used: k, p, yo, k2tog, k3tog.
The pattern comes with written instructions, schematic and pictures.

TECHNIQUE: Square motifs are worked using C2C technique.
Also, you have to know double crochet (dc) US single crochet (sc) st, mattress or any other sewing st for joining all squares if preferred.

MATERIALS REQUIRED
Aran (worsted) weight yarn, or any other you love:
• Navy- Blue - 280g.
• Light Blue - 480g.
• Sky Blue - 480g.
• Pink - 100g.
• Grey - 520g.
NB If you substitute another yarn, please check gauge (tension) and yardage and adjust accordingly.
• Circular needle 5.00mm (US 8) x 50cm.
• 1 Tapestry needle.
• 1 Crochet Hook 3.50mm (US E/4) for joining motifs.

GAUGE (tension): Using 5.00mm (US 8) needles, work a tension square over garter st measuring 12 x 12cm (5 x 5 in). After blocking the gauge measures 16 sts and 34 rows = 10cm (4 in). NOTE Gauge is not crucial for this pattern.
MEASUREMENTS AFTER BLOCKING (Actual size is dependent on your gauge).
Afghan: 122 x 182cm / 48 x 71 ½ in.
Small Square: Approx. 20 x 20cm / 8 x 8 in.
