"Windmill" Scarf
Knitting using the slip stitch technique is fun: a two-colored result, but when knitting you only have one working thread in your hand. Between slips there are only knit and purl stitches. Their arrangement creates a play of light and dark.
I designed this scarf on the german island Amrum. In summer holiday we always live only about 100 m from the windmill. I see dark and light mill wings here.
Would you like to knit this scarf? It’s fun! – here you have the opportunity:
I just don’t sell instructions because developing them is very time-consuming. I offer you 8 material variants that you can knit from, you choose the color yourself. The variety is from recycled cotton up to silk, yak and cashmir.
How do you get your package? Take a look at the material you want in the shop. Depending on the material, the kit weighs and costs differently, and the scarf also has different measurements depending on the gauge and needle size. You can find the exact information on how much wool you need when making your selection. For this scarf I recommend a strong contrast of wool colors. When using gradient yarn, in similar colours, the pattern fades into the background.
The kit then contains your wool and instructions.
What else do you need?
Circular knitting needles in a size that matches your material: 60 cm long is enough if you knit the scarf from the narrow side. If you knit from the long side, I recommend a length of at least 80 cm.
Leftover thread smooth (e.g. cotton), possibly. Stitch marker, 1 crochet hook if, like me, you want to crochet the stitches for the provisional cast on.
My tip for rows over 250 sts: use a circular needle with alternating tips. In your right hand you have the needle of the right size, in your left hand I screw on a tip 1-2 sizes thinner. I change the tips per row so that the right needle size is always in the right hand. What is the advantage? When you knit with strength, the stitches slip more easily onto the left needles, much easier on the wrists and shoulder joints.
