It’s hard to think of anything more spectacular than watching the Arora Borealis dance across a cold winter’s night sky full of stars. Warm your hands this winter in the magic of a pair of Winter Northern Lights mittens!

Degree of Difficulty
This pattern is perfect for the knitter who is familiar with mitten construction and has experience with stranded knitting and reading charts. There are some long floats so experience in catching those will also be helpful. Duplicate stitch is used unless you want to carry three colours for half the mitten. There is also the option of adding a few beads!

Materials:
• Needles - US 2 – 2.75mm circulars for Magic Loop or a set of DPN’s (or size needed to get gauge) PS – I never use DPN’s so I won’t be any help at telling you which stitches go on which needles!
• Yarn: 4 colours fingering weight.
• Stitch markers (mark the thumb gusset for easy placement of increases!)
• Scrap yarn or stitch holder for live thumb stitches (I use a safety pin!)
• Darning needle
• Optional beads for stars– approx. 65. (I used glow-in-the-dark beads for the sample)

Gauge:
• 9 stitches by 10 rows = 2.5cm in stranded colorwork

Size:
• Ladies Medium/Large (21cm (8.25”) from top of cuff to tip of finger, 20.5cm (8”) circumference at the fingers. This is blocked measurements)
