This dice bag features a cursed tome, a bubbling flask, and some magical swirls. It holds about two cups (0.5L) of dice. You can make it larger by casting on more stitches (in a multiple of 24), working the smaller charts more times, or both. You can make it smaller by casting on fewer stitches (in a multiple of 24), skipping the smaller charts, or both.

Gauge is not critical for this pattern. You want it to be tight enough that your dice aren’t going to poke holes in the fabric or fall out. Two needle sizes are listed; I tend to knit stranded colorwork more tightly than regular stockinette, so I used a larger needle for the colorwork sections. If you also tend to knit stranded colorwork more tightly, you may also want to use a larger needle for the colorwork sections to have a consistent gauge across the whole project.

You will need about 10-20 grams each of two or three colors of fingering/sock weight yarn. This is a great project to use up scraps.

Skills/stitches needed for this project:

  • knit and purl
  • decreases (k2tog and skp/ssk)
  • yarnovers
  • stranded colorwork in the round
  • I-cord (by itself)
