With permission from Sue Flanders, who designed the lovely “Workday Scarf,” I have adapted this pattern to be a shawl with a depth of about 18 to 20 inches, with a border of simple lace points. The basic differences from the scarf are in the number and placement of the increases and decreases, as well as the technique for going around the center back point of the shawl.

For this first prototye, I used US No. 4 needles and 3 and a half balls (about 800 yards) of Paton’s Stretch Socks yarn in various colors, which draws up a bit. If done with regular sock yarn, the knitter may find that the number of points worked along the edge can be adjusted for a yarn that has more ease.

This is an easy shawl to work and the lace edging gives it a nice flair, as on the original from Sue Flanders. I hope others enjoy making this as much as I did.
