Woven Hat
This Hat is packed with texture and interest so there’s hardly a dull moment as you create a squishy cosy fabric utilizing both the Right and Wrong sides of bands of Linen stitch, as well bobbles, cables & garter stripes, creating an almost olden world woven look, from another era but
also timeless in its snuggly promise.
A provisional cast on is used at the start, if you are opting for a picot edging for the brim, and then opened and the picot bind off worked, once you have worked your way through the body of the hat and completed the closure of the crown.
You can add more ‘slouch’ amount by working extra garter ridges before commencing with crown decreases.

Knitting skills & techniques used:
Intermediate - Advanced: Casting on/provisional cast on using crochet hook method and waste yarn, binding off (with picot option), knitting & purling in the round, slipping stitches purlwise, passing stitches over, & bobbles. It also includes making decreases by way K2togethers and small circumference knitting to perform the Crown decreases.

Materials:
The following yarn usage amount is an approximate guide and is in fact a little over the actual amount I used, as I have applied an approx. 10% buffer of each ball used, plus rounded up the numbers, in view of differences between knitter’s gauge and such, and to give you a few grams room:
Requires approx. 158 yards / 144 metres DK weight yarn.
For the Sample I used: Emiteri Yarns, Merino DK, ‘War of the Roses set’
(100% Wool - Merino, 100g, 246 yards / 225 meters) in the middle colourway from the 3-skein set, but any wool-based DK Weight yarn of choice should work fine.
Needles:
Brim 3.75mm / US 5 Circular needle (40cm), Main part 4mm / US 6 Circular needle (40cm)
& DPN’s / longer corded needles for magic loop method for small circumference knitting during crown decreases.
Notions: 11 stitch markers (optional) & 1 unique marker to act as BOR. Crochet hook, in similar in size to your chosen needle, and waste yarn both required for the picot bind off version which needs a provisional cast on. Tapestry needle / crochet hook to weave in ends.

Gauge: 4” (10 cm) on 4 mm / US 6 needles (after blocking), 22 sts & 48 rows in Garter stitch
Incorrect Gauge can affect finished measurements / yarn usage.

Finished measurements & relating notes:
Circumference: (Brim on smaller needles) 10” / 25.5cm lying flat (20”/ 51cm all around)
Length: 7.5” / 19cm Length before decreases: 5” / 13cm
(both from cast on edge so including the ribbing) This is adjustable by adding extra garter ridges. It may help to measure garter ridge sections you have already created to know how much in length you would be adding.
