Flowers are everywhere in Lithuania! In fields and gardens, sold in the streets and in shops, decorating tables in restaurants. Floral motifs are popular in knitting, too. This “Blossom” design is usually seen as a star or sun or snowflake on mittens from Scandinavia but in Lithuania it is recognized as a flower and often knit with green leaves and bright or pastel colors for the bloom.

These mittens are worked from the cuff up with a knit-in fringe on the cuff and a fun two-color pattern on the hand. The thumb opening is made by knitting with scrap yarn which is removed later to form a hole where the thumb is added. The fingertips are shaped on an angle and come to a point.
