“Zimmill” is a cabled pillbox hat that utilizes short rows and an XO cable to create a stylish look. It is knit in one piece then uses the kitchener stitch to join the live stitches.

I taught a class this past weekend at the Slater Mill Knitting Weekend on how to make this hat. Within the three hours most of the students had completed more than a third of the hat.

MATERIALS:
1 skein Calm by Dream in Color (100% merino wool with 240 yards) color: November Dream Club
US 8 needles or size needed to obtain gauge (can be straight or circular needles)
Waste Yarn for Provisional Cast on
Stitch Markers
Size H crochet hook

SIZE: one size fits the average head
GAUGE: 20sts to 4” in stockinette stitch

PATTERN NOTES:
~I think Elizabeth Zimmermann is brilliant. This hat pattern is designed based on her mathematical principle for the Pillbox Hat outlined in “Knit One Knit All” which was published 2011.
~You will learn how to do the Provisional Cast on, Short Rows, Built in I-Cord and the Kitchener Stitch in this pattern.
