Cast on with 54 stitches, as the Sockmatician Edition is on the lighter side of DK, and my beanie came out very snug on 112 stitches. I will be doing long cuffs (mid forearm) and will start some decreases once I reach 4 cm. Reduce to 48 stitches at the wrist.

August 17, 2025

Casting on again with 48 stitches.
Knit 22 rounds rib, and did 3 decrease rounds (every 6th round) before changing to stockinette in main and changing to 4.5mm needle.

Started colourwork with 3 repeats of chart on 42 stitches.

August 19, 2025

Increased to 60 stitches (18 stitches thumb and gusset) over 10 rounds, 4 more increase rounds for thumb.

August 20, 2025

Completed increases for thumb on row 24 of the chart. 1 round no increases then placed thumb stitches on hold and joined palm edges.

August 21, 2025

Cast off right mitt, after doing total of 40 rows of the chart and 6 rows of ribbing, decreasing 2 stitches at each side on final ribbing row, then alternating cast off.

August 22, 2025

Finished the cuff of the left mitt, and about to start gussets increases.

August 24, 2025

Knit 2tog either side of thumb join centre, and incorporate 3 more sets decreases in main colour over 8 rounds stripes. Change to main colour and k2tog either side of bor marker and change to ribbing.
Finished thumb with alternating cast off in 1 ×1 rib after decreasing 4 more stitches on inner thumb.

August 25, 2025

Finished 2nd thumb and finished weaving in ends on the 26th.

Pulled out the ribbing at top of mitt, and sized down needle to 3mm, and additional decreases to cast off with 40 stitches.

Contrast was 24gms and main 61 gms for long cuffs.
