My SO didn’t have a stocking (), so I tried to find yarn to match the one I’d made myself. Alas! It was discontinued. I ordered something similar online but when it arrived it was definitely not the colours I had anticipated. So plan B took effect and I just looked for something I liked. (Though now I feel I need to make myself a new one in nicer yarn as they really don’t match.)

I ordered the speckled yarn from Fibrelya on Etsy and it took a roundabout trip from Québec to Newfoundland and finally Saskatchewan, so I barely finished it in time. I hadn’t worked with speckles before, and I’m still not sure what my opinion is of it, but it is fun for a Christmas stocking. It’s also interesting to knit with as you never know what each row will look like.

There wasn’t quite enough in one skein to get this the size I wanted, so partway down I alternated each row with some TFA Spearmint. I think it adds some visual interest. The heel was modified from the original pattern to be short row in TFA Spruce. I like the look of that contrast colour for the heel and toe for a Christmas stocking. In case I ever decide to do the same thing, I worked the shortrows until there were 16 stitches left at the centre of the heel. I had worked more stitches originally, but the heel was too boxy.

Very rapid knit and I’m pleased with the results. The name was added with ribbon and embroidery thread for more texture. Landen is happy with it and so am I.
