CO 97 stitches onto a size 6 needle, change to size 5’s. Knit in 2x1 ribbing for 2” (13 rows; used 15g of yarn). Switch to size 7’s and knit to pattern.
NOTE: I’d sent a note to the designer regarding the 2x1 ribbing listed in the pattern. I’ve almost finished 50 of Nancy’s designs and none of them used this ribbing. I was right, it should be 2x2 ribbing. Frogged and restarted on 6/7/24. No worries, I’d rather do it right! In addition to the ribbing, Nancy sent a couple of other corrections to the pattern. I discovered that you need to add 3 stitches to the 1st row of the pattern to get to the 33 stitches per section called for, and Nancy deleted row 46 of the pattern (repetitive and may cause a point on the top!)
I’m through the first section of the pattern, quite a fun knit. Next couple of sections should go faster, I’m anxious to see how this turns out. No issues with the next parts of the pattern but I find stranded colorwork with only a few stitches on double pointed needles to be quite fussy to work. I’m always convinced that I’m going to be too loose or too tight and leave a weird point on the top of the hat. When I knit mine, I may add the black as duplicate stitch.
Errors we found in the pattern (all corrected, I’m sure):
- should be 2x2 ribbing
- need to increase 3 stitches on the first row of the pattern
- delete row 46 of chart
Done! Fun knit but this one does seem bigger than the others I’ve knit for Nancy. I soaked it gently and am blocking it on a smaller balloon than I usually use (19” circumference vs. 21 or 22”) to see if it will shrink back into shape.
