I wanted super bright but medium-to-low contrast color changes. I’m super excited about this! I want it to be lightweight, drapey, and have puffy sleeves like a Junko Okamoto pattern. To achieve a relaxed fit, I’m going up a size or two!
Mods:
-cast on 152 st instead of 124 for a wider neckline. Knitted only half the plain stockinette so the overall neckline would fall lower (after finding that my Ninilchik’s neckline is intolerably high due to my thryoid problems, I NEEDED this mod)
-GERMAN SHORT ROWS!!! If you haven’t yet learned this method, it is now time. No gaps. Easiest method. Simple to work when backwards knitting to omit purl/WS knitting. What are you waiting for??
-I wanted my pink section to be longer, so I added in tiny cross colorwork to lengthen that section. It also mimics the first colorwork section by having a large motif followed by a mini version of that motif.
-not doing any arm decreases so I have a fluffy looser arm that will be cinched in by the cuff, in the style of Junko Okamoto
-changing final body section length to be a drapey tunic, using much larger needles to get a peplum
-I increased the distance between each flea stitch stripe in the black section so the lighter stitches slowly fade out. I wanted to show more of the subtle neon speckles of Nineties Kid, which is difficult to see through all the alpaca hair ;)
Needle sizes:
-ribbing: US 3
-stockinette: US 3
-2 color colorwork: US 4
-3 color colorwork: US 5
-additional tunic hem: US 10

Finally dyed my yarn!

Started with size 4 for stockinette and 6 for colorwork. But after knitting halfway through the first motif, I’m going to frog back to the ribbing , and go down a needle size per section.

The colorwork is PERFECT (no bunching), which is difficult with a yarn that has absolutely no stretch. I enjoy the look of the stitches after dropping the needle sizes, yet it’s still loose enough to show the yarn’s fuzzy texture.

Body and sleeves are both 3/4 finished! All need just the last colorwork section to be completed. I’m going to knit the arms first to the length I like, and come back to the body and use the remaining yarn. I should have plenty leftover, but I also plan on making the black bottom into a floaty, breezy tunic length using a larger needle to really show off that yarn halo.
