Such an interesting pattern! Never had a construction like this before. You start by casting on the right sleeve, knit flat and knit the body sideways, finishing with the second sleeve.
Cable pattern swatch: 4mm
Herringbone swatch: 4.5mm
Cast-on with twisted german cast-on just because I’m comfortable with it. Pattern calls for the long tail co.
Used a 3.5mm for ribbing.
Started the increase section. I felt a bit intimidated by the « formula » but after the first 2 sections, it became clear and easy to fallow. The charts are very simple and easy to remember. I used a little notepad to keep track of the different charts and rows.
I added two extra rows to the first sleeve before casting on the body, keeping track of the rows for the remaining of the pattern.
For the herringbone panel,I used a 3.75mm for the garter stitch, switched to 4.5mm for the herringbone, used a 4mm for the last row before switching back to the 3.75mm for the other garter stitch border. The herringbone is really fun to knit. There was some issues with an apparent “gap” on the second border of the garter stitch during test knitting, but it blocks out fine.
I’m not used to seaming and I felt that I really got better during the process. It made me wish that I had practiced on swatches beforehand. After a while, I really got what I was supposed to do. It’s not so hard after all!
Don’t be intimidated by the apparent complexity of the pattern, it is very clear and intuitive. I really enjoyed knitting the whole garment, it is just enjoyable. I highly recommend.
