This is for Susan, who is such a diehard Blue Devils fan her Ravelry name starts with “Dukie.” This isn’t the blue of Duke University, but it matches the blue stitch markers I’ve made her, and that’s what I was going for.

I sorta just followed the pattern as I remembered it in my head (I’ve knit so many of these now that I can just go off-the-cuff). I cast on 17 stitches while watching TV and then when I got to the decreases and increases it came out a bit awkwardly because I couldn’t remember what I’d done on the other side to make it more symmetrical. Eh, whatever. It looks cute.

G. Cruickshank: The Blue Devils, 1835. George Cruickshank was a humorist of the school of Hogarth and considered by some to be the best England has produced. He began as a painter of theatre backdrops, moved onto political caricatures and finally found his niche in the 1820s as a book illustrator. Perhaps his most famous work accompanied some editions of Charles Dickens novels.
