Blanket from same size scales (12x12) and layout of Harmonious. Corner miter changed slightly to a centered ICDD (double decrease) in place of the book matched singles. So scale count multiple plus 4 (not5) per side.
Needs odd number of scales to keep a point lined up to final scale center (can have even number but no matched point and different final scale chart, =half rep)
This has 19 scales per side. Anticipating roughly 42-44” sides. And between 7-8 hanks required. Using a gradient fade orange edges to purple center.
929 CO, 232 per side. 2, 60” interchangeable cords joined. (Personally, after making sure of no twists, I’d cram it onto 1 if I didn’t need in progress pics with it spread out. I prefer crowded cords to all this shuffling around)
This is a lot of stitches and getting no twists is challenging. Pin to a surface to help reassure yourself they are straight before joining… Even then I keep laying it out and checking it’s right, just to calm my “if this is twisted I’m gonna be so pissed having to restart” anxiety.
And I admit second guessing myself and nearly adding a twist by trying to (unnecessarily) correct it on round 3, but I caught my oops twist in the layout.
Eesh, that would have really made me kick myself!
I also admit to having to stop and check every corner because I changed the miter decrease setup I got so used to with all the samples of Harmonious, Bountiful, Year of, and the many many placemat prototypes (that I still haven’t finalized). Ingrained habits are hard to break.
Coming along nicely. Confident of no twists. Beginning to look more like a square outline than a mile-long looped ramen noodle.
The Glazed Carrot to Libra color shift is a bit wide in actual knitting (it looked better side by side caked). The jump will have a visual effect of a border… idk, it will be ok I think. Better to jump than to stripe-in with this much color difference, especially so close to the edge. When you stripe it with a large color shift it draws the eye to the overall zigzag line of the stitch pattern instead of the scales. The zigzag stripes can work nicely deeper into the fabric and/or with more speckled colors but it is a bit jarring for me at the only an inch or so in. There wasn’t a good fitting in-between color in stock nearby and Im on a roll so going with it and hoping for the best.
The jump from Aries to Purpuras is a bit much also… shopping for an in-between. (I have plenty of time before I get there to wait for mail order)
As it grows the shift is not as jarring but I do wish the orange was wider. That outer edge uses a lot of yarn! I got 10 rounds (of 12 per repeat) from 1 210y cake and I only had one. If I were to make another I’d do 3-4 balls of the outermost color aiming for roughly 3.5 repeats before starting the color shift.

Notes to self
? Include Chart for both odd/even scale # to allow more precise sizing mods? IDK, Addition of 96 sts per scale count jump needed for the as written/charted odd number total add 2 to each side at C) is a lot, adds up quickly, but including the notes and two chart styles for both even counts (add just 1 per side) may be too many variables. ? Ponder pro con
yes
add blocking notes (general pin sequence) and include XL blocking surface needed in Materials box
Don’t forget to add a mini and a squared (flat) swatching chart for testing color combos in patt and learning stitch (include both rs/ws st instructions and instructions for the sliding work w long back floats trick for faking work in round).
Also do a st st swatch for gauge as additional info for yarn needle pairing.
