PLANNING
22/01:
Trying something new: two at a time toe-up socks. I normally cast on 64sts on 2,5mm needles, but my smallest circular needles are 2,75mm, so I’ll cast on 60sts to make up for the difference. And if I like this way of knitting socks I can invest in 2,5mm circular needles.
I’m adding a 9sts slip stitch pattern:
- Sock 1: knit 21sts, knit slip stitch pattern over 9sts, knit till end of row
- Sock 2: knit slip stitch pattern over 9 sts, knit till end of row
- Slip stitch pattern: Round 1: (p1, sl1, k2, psso)x2, p1 Round 2: (p1, k1, yo, k1)x2, p1 Round 3: (p1, k3)x2, p1 Round 4: (p1, k3)x2, p1
- Repeat these 4 rows.
PROJECT
So far I really enjoy knitting two socks at the same time. They knit up relatively fast (probably also because of the lesser stitches/bigger needles).
I used a shadow wrap heel, I probably should not have knit the slip stitch pattern on the beginning of the row, but knit a few stockinette stitches before starting the pattern. Now the pattern gets stretched a bit and it is very much on the sides of my feet.
1x1 rib for the cuffs.
Finished 04/03: They turned out a bit too tight, the stitches get really stretched when I put these on. Casting on 60sts instead of 64 might not have been my brightest idea. I will probably frog and reknit these over 64sts and with the pattern more centered on the foot. Hereby I also discovered a disadvantage of knitting two at a time: you can only try them on when they’re both finished, and when they don’t, you have to frog two socks instead of one…
06/03: starting over! Top down, one at a time, 64sts. No more crazy adventures this time
Things I’ll adjust:
-
2x2 rib, longer
-
I will position the pattern a bit more centered on the foot
-
I’ll use a different color for the heels to avoid yarn chicken (because of the bigger number of stitches this time - I have no more yellow yarn left + then I can use the yarn from the heels as extra on the toes if needed)
-
28.04: I’m a few cm past the heel of the second sock only to realize that I’m making them identical instead of symmetrical
Aaaaanyway, I’ll just continue knitting because frogging them would mean I’d be knitting a heel for the 5th time on this pair and all I want is to finish these at some point, sooner rather than later.
-
30.04: finished! i’m pleased with how they turned out, the positioning of the pattern is much better this way. Too bad I made the mistake of not mirroring them, but it does not stop me from liking them
YARN
I love the unicorn yarn, both the color and the feel. I’ve knit with the solid unicorn yarn before, and then it also struck me as being very soft.
The yellow and purple are leftover from previous projects.
