I wanted an earlier purse than the shamrock purse I made last year. I found one I liked at the Met that was dated to the beginning of the 19th century. I couldn’t find a printed pattern that old, but I found one in Miss Watts’ book that gave a similar look, just with smaller holes. Since I’ll be using the purse for notes and cards rather than gold and silver, the smaller holes will probably be better. I’ll be using this one for Regency and Romantic era costuming.

The pattern makes up to be offset because all the stitches are added on the right and removed on the left. I didn’t try to counteract that in blocking because the museum purse had a definite diagonal to the pattern. I just let the seam go across the purse diagonally.
