I’m making an assortment of baby blankets for all of the babies being born to my daughter Susie’s friends. She has 4 friends expecting babies this summer.

We have also just had the happy news that she is also expecting, but her little one is due in November. So I’m going to be busy with making baby things from now on, which is OK by me.

I’m very excited to find out whether my new grandchild is going to be a boy or girl. I am lucky to have 2 granddaughters and 4 grandsons, so it would be nice to have another girl, but we will be pleased either way of course, but let it be pink

I have made a few of these blanket before and I have added extra bobbles on this blanket to make the flower into a diamond, more suitable for a boy.

What I did:

As I crochet tightly, my sc stitches are quite shallow, so I substituted the English DK stitches with US hdc.

I added 4 extra stitches to the width. 141 ch ]= 139 hdc.

How I made the flower into diamond:

Before row 6 an after row 10 of flower pattern:

Ch 1, 9 hdc (mb, 19 hdc) x 6 mb 9 hdc

Before row 16 and after row 20

Ch 1 ,19 hdc (mb, 19 hdc) x 5 mb, 19 hdc

Border:

I went around the whole banket with sc, using grey on grey and white on white to get a neater finish.
Crab stitch (reverse sc) all around in grey.
