Notes

Loose color plan:
C1-Blood runs cold
C2-Tart
C3-Undyed (white)
C4-Peach

Since I am hoping this gnome will be St. Nicholas, this is my actual color plan:
Body - Undyed
Hat - Blood runs cold
Beard - Undyed
Nose & hands - Peach
Accents - Tart

I will also make a cope from Blood runs cold.

I’ll be winging my color plan as the clues come out!

Gnombleberry into St. Gnicholas’

Hat

  • Knitted the top of the pocket as a triangle to make it more mitre shaped - only the top point is stitched down so the pocket still works
  • Gold lines embroidered on in gold DMC thread - color 3821

Edits to the backpack

  • replaced the last purl row with another braid
  • Lightly cinched the top edge using the woven-in ends to make it a little more sack like
  • Used one long I-cord to make a shoulder bag instead of two backpack straps (since he is also wearing a cope) - the ends are sewn onto the inside of the two short sides

St. Gnicholas’ cope:

  • Cast on 86 stitches

  • Estonian braid

  • Stockinette stitch for about ?? inches, slipping the first stitch of each row

  • Next RS row: slip 1, k 28, pm, k 28, pm, k 28, k 1

  • Every RS row until tall enough: slip 1, k to 2 stitches before marker, k2tg, slip m, knit 28, slip m, ssk, knit to end

  • Bind off

  • correction: That didn’t decrease fast enough, so I ripped back until just after the first couple of decreases. Continued those decreases and added a CDD to the middle of the back and decreases to the edges. If I did it again, I would do k2tg and ssk instead of the CDD.

Gnewt into St. Lucia

Gnewt is going to be St. Lucia!
Hat - lamplight
Body - undyed
Belt - blood runs cold
Hat braid and wreath - moss tonal
Hair - Dumbledore

I added extra rows to the body to make her a little taller. I did 18 instead of 11 rows.

Hair - 5 strand braid (each strand is aerie held double) - wrapped around the back and sewn down just under the hat brim with the two ends coming down in front of the arms

Belt - crochet chain, tied in knot in front and sewn down

Wreath

  • Picot cast on - total length is double the circumference of the hat band
  • cast on 2, k and bo 2 so that it binds itself off as the picots are made (first half)
  • cast on 1, k and bo 1 for second half
  • sewn into place over hat band - starting with smaller picots directly on top of the braid, then the larger picots directly above first band
  • Candles - toothpicks cut to size and painted, stuck up though leaves on wreath
