To accomodate the heavier yarn, dropped needle size to 3.25mm. This gave me a slightly bigger gauge than called for (5st/in), so knitting according to size 3 instructions to (hopefully) result in a 5/6.
7/23 - So far, this is fitting her perfectly. I added 4 rounds to the garter stitch bodice to account for her long torso and am knitting to about the size 5 length detailed in the pattern.
Inspired by Diplodocus’ Milo, I’m adding fair isle flowers at the bottom, per this chart: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sokkene-jessi
(I used Google Translate for Diplodocus’ page and use the chart only, w/o the written instructions, as I don’t read/speak the language).
I have mixed feelings about this yarn. At first it felt very artificial to my fingers, almost a plastic feeling. I’m not sure if that’s due to the cotton in it or the processing or both, but I did get used to it rather quickly and it feels very soft, yet thick and cozy warm knitted at this gauge. I’m not usually a big fan of superwash wool, but I do think the combo of this and cotton will (hopefully) hold up OK to the rigors of childhood play. That said, it does seem to be flattening a bit already and will most certainly pill. I’m also concerned it’s not going to hold’s shape well; I’m not sure why I feel that way, but there you go. The yarn itself does split and unravel a great deal while knitting up, which I find really annoying, but fighting through that results in a lovely fabric with bright colors and gorgeous sheen. So I like it, but it could be better, I guess. I’m interested to see how it looks after a few wears, but for now, I would use it again.
7/24 - It’s basically done, just weaving in ends and blocking to go. It is 16.5” pre-blocking and fits her well, tho I think it will stretch a bit when it gets wet. The end is flaring a bit, so I’m hoping I can stretch the flower band a bit to help that too.
7/25 - All done! It’s soaking now. Super fast knit - only a week (super fast for this busy mama).
Dried super fast out in the summer heat. All done. Grew 2” with blocking, for a total of 18.5”. Looks awesome on her and she loves it plus it’s roomy enough for a shirt underneath and for at least one growth spurt (hopefully)! Colors in original yarn pic and on my girl are the truest; colors against the wood were taken in lower light, so a little less bright.
UPDATE: The one thing that keeps bugging me about this piece is that you can see where I made the increases (M1s) on the last row of the bodice. Will probably knit another row before adding them in for the next one.
