modifications: beads, fingering weight yarn, the double decreases are modified so that the ones that have beads also have the middle stitch on top, which is also where the bead sits. this is so there won’t be crooked bead placements.

new technique: lace surgery

the yarn came yesterday and I picked out the beads today, so I thought it would be a good time to get started.

I was going to determine the placement of the beads by drawing dots on a printout when hardy had the idea of doing it in paint.net instead. what we did was:

  1. take a screenshot of the pdf where it has a picture, and upload it to paint.net. probably wouldve been easier to use the image from the pattern page.

  2. decrease the opacity to 75% and draw lines marking the top edge and middle line so that we wouldn’t have to do dots over the whole thing – it was also easier to see where the boundary was than without the lines.

  3. the dots (representing beads, and big dots being potential bigger beads) were added on a layer separate from the background layer (the image) so that the background could be turned off easily, and we could see the distribution of beads better.

  4. last step was to transfer the location of the beads to the charts. I was careful to place beads over places where there would be an established stitch or decrease, and not a yo.

the third image shows the image file we ended up with, after he cropped the image for printing purposes, and took the lines off for a reason I don’t remember before I printed the image. I would have liked to include a version without the background, but forgot to ask him for it before he flattened it.

I think the chart might have some mistakes, but I can’t tell what might be a mistake in the chart vs a mistake that’s my fault. either way ive been fudging a lot

so because of some fuckery that involved a choice between tinking back another row, or adding two extra ws+rs rows, my chart 4 has an extra ws+rs row before and after the motifs. to continue the pattern of 2 blank rows after chart 3, then 3 blank rows before and after chart 4, chart 5 will have 4 blank rows.
