Notes

So. Much. Counting.

I will not be slipping the first stitch. I read in other peoples notes that slipping the first stitch reduces the stretch of the top border.

I used a 3 stitch garter tab with provisional cast on.

In the M1 places I did M1L(s) before the centre stitch and M1R(s) after.

German short rows instead of w&t.

I did most of the Moth variation. I didn’t do the “eyes” nor did I use a ‘pop’ of colour in the eyelets, instead I chose to use my contrast colour (brown) only. After finishing the “end section after the PODS” I did not have enough left for the bind off. cry I had to go through and use all grey-that-was-too-brown pieces I didn’t want to use and ended up needing them all. I would have preferred the bind off to be the solid brown, however Because of all the colour changes throughout the shawl I’m okay with it and like how it turned out.

Ball 1: Started with orange, ended with tan before it got too brown
Ball 2: Started with tan (omitted brown)
Ball 3: Started with tan (omitted anything too brown)
Ball 4: started with orange, finished before the orange got bright (orange-yellow), though I think the pods on one side same out darker than the other.

I wish my yarn was more of a gradual gradient because I keep getting the first row of a section being the “old” colour and it doesn’t blend with the next colour as I’m short rowing across and I have to think that section and restart with the yarn further ahead and I’ve got so much loose yarn dangling off the side.

Might have finished this sooner but as the shawl got longer each section took too long to do in the evenings after work so this became something I could only knit on weekends. I lost a weekend’s worth of work because I was sick. Luckily for me I got 4 days off for Christmas (plus the Saturday when I did my bind off, and Sunday) and had several days in a row where I could really bang this out.
