I have no idea how much yardage I used for this pattern. I just put in an estimate and then doubled it because I doubled the yarn.
I think that my doubled yarn is about light fingering or fingering.
I tried this with a smaller hook but I didn’t get gauge. I think that must be why I need to use the 3.75 mm (F) hook - my doubled lace weight yarn must not be quite fingering weight.
I am considering making the fold-up brim a contrasting color.
Begin Hat
Rnds 2-3 are a bit fiddly. After that it’s easier to see what you are doing.
I made this hat twice - the first one I frogged because the circumference was 26 inches ….. I was almost to the brim when I realized. Frogged it and did it over again with a smaller hook. The size hook called for in the pattern was just too small. It hurt my hands to work with it and this yarn.
I adjusted the size by doing less sc in the 3 size sections. I found that 4 sc in each of those sections and my F hook worked out to the size I was looking for.
I had thought of this hat as one for a man but now that it’s finished, it may not work out that way. I will have to see how everything goes.
Addition
I added some navy blue trim - a crab stitch around the top of the brim and a sc around the fold section of hat/brim. The general idea was to help the fold stay folded and the brim to stay “up”. Unfortunately, I only have worsted in this color but it was only 1 round in each place. I think when the hat is worn that it will all look straight.
