The book contains instructions for the cast on and double knitting, but as visual person I found searching youtube much more helpful. It’s also difficult to keep the color changes straight in the first couple rows, before the fabric becomes readable. I recommend an hour or so without any distractions to get started.

The largest color blocks in the charted pattern are 5 stitches by 5 rows. I’ve added a row to the centermost horizontal stripe to achieve a larger and slightly more square color block at the center.

Well, I thought I made good progress today but then I looked at my progress pic and realized I got off on the colorwork XP Luckily I got off on both sides by the same amount, so it was surprisingly easy to drop the stitches down and pick them back up in the correct color.

Cast off!!! Not sure why the yardage doesn’t match up between color A and B, but the scarf looks good so I’m not going to question it too much.

For blocking, I soaked and stretched gently just to even out the width of the shawl, particularly at the cast on and cast off.
