March 2021
This project was originally the “ZickZack Scarf” but I felt like it was best as a scrap project. So this will put this on hold until I’ve completed an “Epic 2021 Mini Skein Project”.
May 2023
This is my second attempt with the “Inclinations Shawl”. The yarn I used for the first shawl was meant for a different pattern and I wanted to give this pattern a chance. I felt that this pattern would good for a scrap busting project, so I brought out my leftovers from my “Space Arabian Tales” shawl. I will start with December’s fifth mini skein and January’s first mini skein to start the project. While January’s skein will ascend with the monthly gradients, December’s skein will descend. I know I won’t finish this shawl before the DRK March 2 May KAL is over but I want to continue knitting this in spirit.
Using a size 6 needle, I did an icord cast on. I casted on 3 stitches, knitted 5 row in the icord, picked up 3 stitches on the side and another 3 on the other end of the icord. From there, I followed the pattern.
June 2023
It was an interesting bet on figuring out which month of mini skeins the shawl will end with. The different type of yarn each month had played the part. There’s Ester, Oriana, and Celeste. While, Ester had the shortage yardage, Celeste had the longest yardage, and Oriana was in the middle. With that in mind for the leftovers, Ester bundles were about 20grams each, Oriana’s bundles were about 30g, and Celeste’s bundles were about 40g each. (It’s like I needed only half of Celeste’s bundles for the previous mini skein project.) Which month finished off the shawl?
December’s mini skeins were never added into the “Space Arabian Tales” shawl. So that meant I was playing with a fresh bundle of Oriana mini skeins to go with the first months of 2021’s mini skeins. With January and February’s mini skeins being Oriana, they took on 2.5 mini skeins from December. March’s Ester bundle knitted up quickly as I used a little of December’s 4th mini skein to finish it. April was Celeste and there was ALOT of yardage to knit up. Decemeber put on a good fight but it ran out of steam. Luckily, November was ready to tag in to help finish the battle with April.
November’s bundle were Celeste so there were alot of yardage to knit up. How many months could take on November’s leftovers? Up next was May and June’s Ester bundle, which November won against. However, it lost against July’s Oriana bundle. So it was October’s turn and that bundle was also Celeste. The battle of the mini skeins continued with the three remaining months. October finished off July’s bundle. August’s bundle was never used part of the fight, for it’s silky bamboo fibers wouldn’t allow it to. Even though September thought it was a Celeste bundle, it was really Oriana bundle. In the end, it was the October’s bundle that finished the shawl. With the third mini skein, I did the iCord bindoff and I was left with 2 grams to spare.
Between the two groups, you could say that December’s team won the battle against January’s team. What gave the second group the advantage was December being a new fresh bundle of mini skeins and October and November both being Celeste, having the most yardage of leftovers. Sure, April was Celeste too, but it wasn’t enough for the first team. As a result, January’s group had more color changes: teal > purple > gray > yellow > green > blue. December’s group had hot pink > red > orange > purple. I thought the colors in the middle of the shawl would clash but somehow the colors worked out well. I may try to knit this again without doing the stripes.
