Nightshift Era

It took some time but I figured out how I wanted the colors to mix for “Nightshift”. The plan is to change 1 color after a pattern repeat. First change would be the background color, then the dot color, and repeat. I don’t know if I’ll have enough yarn to do this all the way through. But I’ll figure it out when I get there.

Eventually I did run out of yarn and couldn’t do a full pattern with 1 mini skein. So I had to knit half of the pattern and then switch to the next color to finish the other half. Since I was near the finish line and using the Vivid pack as the background color, I tried to use all of the remaining yarn. If the mini skein completed the half pattern and still had yardage, I would continue in the same pattern until it couldn’t survive two more rows. If the skein couldn’t finish a row, I would tie in the next color and knit on, even if it was in the middle of the row.
In the end, the shawl turned out beautiful and colorful, just what I expected. I’m glad I changed my mind about using these mini skeins for “Inclincations Shawl”. I can see myself making this pattern again, either with mini skeins or full skeins.
Inclinations Era: The shawl not meant to be…

I wanted both “Roaring 20s” mini skeins to blend together. I paired the colors together, starting with Vivid’s Grey and Suble’s Teal. I figured I would start with an icord cast on since the sides of the shawl have an icord and there’s even a icord bindoff. I casted on 3 stitches, did 5 rows, picked up 3 stitches on the stitch and another 3 on the ends of the icord. I was ready to follow the pattern.

I decided to really mix the colors by ending the grey color half way and add the next Vivid mini skein, green. That way the colors will mix with at least two colors. I did faded rows with the old and new colors while the partnered skein remained the same. It was annoying working with 3 yarns but I want the color change to not be noticeable.

After looking at completed shawls for the DRK’s KAL, the “Nightshift” shawl kept inspiring me to try. The more I think about it, the more I’m convinced that these mini skeins are meant to be a “Nightshift” shawl. I’ll find another group of mini skeins to do the “Inclinations Shawl” pattern with. In the meantime, this project will be renamed in time.
