Since last year, I knew that this pattern would be my first project for SpaceCadet’s Gradient Explorers Club’s yarn. I waited to obtain 6 skeins of their beautiful gradients, even waited to see their 7th skein just in case. Once I got the 6 skeins, I turned them into cakes and covered the brioche pairs with the same patterned yarn socks as a reminder. Deciding that I liked blue to be on the outside of the shawl, so I started with Summer Stargazer (May) and Succulent (Feb) as the first group. Showers (Apr) and Skating Pond (Jan) was the second group. Rainwashed (Mar) and Plum Wine (Dec) was the last group.
Completing the brioche section was a piece of cake, as long as I marking the first row of my color fading. That’s one very important tip I learned from my ADVENTurous Wrap. Similar colors can hide very easily and well when switching between them many times and you can lose track of them easily if you don’t pay attention. These six skeins are fading into each other beautifully. And the brioche is so squishy!
Then came the garter section, where I could see the real magic of how these skeins flowed together, starting with “Plum Wine”. I switched to a size 4 needle since I usually knit tightly. I decided to do yarnovers on the right side and knit them twisted like a mr or ml stitch on the wrong side. I was trying to hide the spine on the shawl. I finished it with the icord bindoff and I grafted the final 6 stitches together.
This have been a fun project. I still have yarn to work a second project with. I would make this shawl again, maybe with the next 6 months of skeins from SpaceCadet’s Gradient Explorers Yarn Club. I don’t know how their gradient mini skeins would work for this project since the shawl really grows. I would ran into the same yardage problem as my ADVENTurous Wrap. Maybe next time I knit this, I would try a set starting with dark to light instead of dark to light to dark. I could have skipped using December’s “Plum Wine” and use June’s “Lurking” for the more light to dark effect. However, I really wanted to include the purple into this project. I don’t regret and I won’t frog it.
