Notes

This is an extension of the Flower Star Square in Aran I made to test out my square with thicker yarn.

Yarn used:
I used Aran yarn from stash in:
Cream, Light Blue, and Pink (as these were the only colours I had in Aran, as I usually use DK :) )

The bag is made the same as the shoulder bag I made in double knit, but quite a bit larger because of the yarn thickness.

Making process:
Pictures show the process of making the bag:
5.5mm hook; making two squares; extending the squares by 2 rows (hdc + sc sc row uses 6mm hook); joining the squares with a flat braid join; adding extra rows of hdc, sc, and sl st at the top; making the braided tie; making the shoulder strap (folded and oversewn for strength and thickness); adding the tassels; and making and hand sewing in the lining (double cotton lining with purse section).

Note re the lining:
I always make linings for crochet bags to be a little wider than the bag itself. This is because crochet bags stretch and I want to lining to be able to accomodate that. This is easy enough to hand sew in, simply by holding the crochet edge taut while the lining is sewn to it.
This does mean that the lining will look ‘gathered’ (it isn’t) while the bag is empty, but it really helps make the bag more useable.

And that’s it! :)
I will probably make more of these bags and more of the squares soon :)
