Final thoughts: I will use this pattern again. I had difficulties in obtaining the right gauge and doing a loose cast-on at the neckline. In the end it didn’t seem to be of great importance. If I knitted this again with long sleeves I would incorporate the provisional cast-on.
The yarn felt unfamiliar and odd at first having used lace and sock weight yarn lately, but in the end I like how well it blocks and how it feels when worn.

Day 7 and 8: All the knitting and sewing in the threats is finished. I bought some beautiful buttons; well not buttons exactly but three clasps. I want to avoid the clasps hanging and pulling on the button border so I strengthened the top 1/3rd (7 1/2 inches) of the border by picking up 4 stitches for every 3 rows for a total of 24 stitches on US size 7 needles and knitted 4 rows on the wrong side. Before sewing this up I also inserted a ribbon. This should now be strong enough to hold the clasps which are not that heavy anyway without pulling on the garment.

Day 6 of working on this: After a couple of days during which other things got in the way of working on my Liesl including some other knitting projects, I finished the first sleeve. Now just one more sleeve, blocking and I am ready to wear it.

Day 5: Now on to the 3/4 sleeves using the magic loop method. OH, how I wish I had done a provisional cast on under the arms! Not only would it save me from having to co those 12 stitches, but it would also be more stretchy.

Day 4: Finished the body.

Day 3: Every time I try it on to check on the length I think this is coming along really nicely and I am planning to use this pattern again.

Day 2: The CO was still a little tight so the neck line will be higher than I originally wanted.. It is a very fast knit. I switched to 6.5mm needles because I thought it was a bit tight, but think that that may depend on how much I will stretch the lace when blocking. I am now on the body part after slipping stitches on my shortest knitpick cables for the sleeved version. Next time I knit this pattern I will do a provisional cast on, because I will later need to pick up the same number of stitches here for the sleeves. I tried it on to see if the measurements are OK and think it looks good so far. I’d give this pattern a five star rating for ease and personalized choices along the way.
I am still flip-flopping between different size needles and changed back to the 6mm below the bust-line.

Day 1:I have frogged my first 12 rows and started again. The CO was too tight. So, now I am using a crochet CO on 7mm needles. Then switch to 6mm after a few rows. I also did 3 rows of garter stitch like knittingsoprano.

I have been wanting to knit this up for so long, but even though those who knitted this up say it is an easy project I have shied away from it. It looks so complicated. After having knitted a few lace shawl patterns I feel a little more confident, but I am a little wary if I got the gauge right even after doing a lot of swatches. Now I started and will keep going. It is the first time I knit a top down pattern.
