More or less only using the stitch from the pattern.
I made two like this some 14 years ago.

It feels great how much easier it is to make these after all these years of knitting. I should not forget that to a newer knitter things may come harder.
With a natural soap shop ( Buff City Soap) moving into the neighborhood, I realize just how nice a gift they make smiling_face_with_3_hearts soap
These are big bars of soap. Need to CO 25 sts instead of 17. Actually 22 sts are enough. 11 1/2 inches from eyelet to eyelet for the large soap bars. Total finished dimension is 7“ long 4 1/2“ wide ( after seaming).
Doing the eyelet row for the string on a second row repeat ( row 5) as k1,( YO, k2tog )to last st, P1
In the next row ( RS) you Purl into the YO’s.
I considered knitting this in the round using Judy’s Magic Cast on, but I quite like the crochet seam around three sides. It looks decorative and gives definition to the shape.
The string is just a simple crochet chain on the smaller hook. 14“ long.
I will probably make more of these.
