I’ve always wanted to do a red and white Christmas throw. I purchased some yarn from Michaels last week. The first yarn I use was Caron (white) by the Pound. I couldn’t feel the yarn because it was wrapped in plastic. Unfortunately it is too coarse for a throw and not soft like Caron’s Simply Soft yarn. So I started over using the Simply Soft yarn. I love this ripple stitch from Jan Eaton’s book “200 ripple stitch patterns”. It’s easy…after the first row I had it memorized.

Starting chain is 170 + 3 (stitch is multiple of 17 plus 3)

I learned from this ripple throw that I have to make the starting foundation chain a little longer than it appears because the ripple stitch takes up some of the length due to its mountains and valleys.

After crocheting the first two blocks of red and white I realized I had a little problem with the edges not lining up. Finally I tried cutting one end and frogging but messed it up and had to frogged back two rows. After studying the pattern I figured out how to frog back each edge to make them even. It took a little while but I’m happier now that the edges are aligned. If I had been paying attention I probably wouldn’t have made the error in the first place.

I’m alternating the color pattern (red and white) as I go. I’ll write it up when I am done.
