Notes

This mug mat is a first project showing how you can use 2” squares together with elongated hexagons. Please note that the side lengths of the looms that you’re using need to be the same, in this case 2”.

Weave:

  • (4) elongated hexagons in beige
  • (4) elongated hexagons green
  • (8) squares in green

Assembly:

  • Use the photos as guidance.
  • Start with a green “cross” in the center. Use the beginning tails of the elongated hexagons to sew the sides.
  • Add the brown elongated hexagons as shown. (Use the beginning tails to connect a brown and a green side, then use the ending tails of the cross hexagons to sew the other sides.)
  • Use the long tails of the 2” squares and join them to the hexagons as shown in the photo.
  • Weave in all ends.

Notice that the edging is a pretty mix of straight lines on the hexagons and scallops on the squares. No need to add anything else!

Alternate designs
It was not easy to decide what to choose as initial project. As usual, I made plenty of hexagons and squares to play with, and once you start playing, there is no end to it! I’ve included 14 alternate designs, using the same two colors and shapes. And there’s more to discover, I just had to stop at some point … I hope you’ll enjoy!
