Miles of Marling
I’ve been testing out the wicked fun @westknits Marled Mania Cardigan!
The mint popsicle color scheme was inspired by the 92/33 degree average temperatures during this knit, and the fact I knit at all in this broiler of an early fall is a testament to how fun this pattern is. Seasonally inappropriate knitters unite! .
I knit at a slightly tighter gauge as I am on the runt side of the size small’s chest circumference. The fit is close enough at the back between the shoulders that the drapey front stays in place on my narrower shoulders. I knit the shorter length, it ends at about my knee in the back and a bit below my knees at the longest parts of the front panels. (I’m of average height, about 163cm tall, and I used a lot of stretchy superwash yarns. )
The mohair ribbed collar is dramatic and cozy! I only had one skein of mohair so I held strand of Hedgehog Kidsilk mohair in “Skinny Dip” along with a strand of MadTosh Prairie “button jar blue” and a strand of MadTosh Euro sock in “Clap Your Hands” to make the fuzzy collar and cuffs. I finished the collar with the increases as written, and it flowed very nicely, especially after I blocked it.
My collar used 142g of yarn in total, and was 9.25 inches after blocking. I blocked it before attaching the body.
I ended up swatching out my marling section a few times to see what colors I wanted with the minty green mohair. I wrote down my color changes very diligently incase I wanted to make the sleeves match….but I totally winged it anyway and didn’t look at my notes when starting the first sleeve.( I think it blends in nicely with the same yarns, and I was having more fun that way.)
