Notes

I should change my Rav name. NocturnalShawlBlocker maybe. Or BlockingAfterMidnight.
Once again it’s almost 2 in the morning and I just finished pinning her to the blocking mats, yay..!

I’ve had this Craftsy class forever and always meant to knit the shawl, but for some reason I never got around to it. Now that my mum has hinted rather strongly about a shawl for Christmas I finally got the push I needed! I even ignored my extensive yarn stash and went out and picked out some new yarn today, especially for mum heart I’m in the beginning of clue 3 on this years Stephen West KAL so I’m not sure when I get to start with High Sierra, but soon, I hope.

Finally finished upper triangle on the fourth attempt… I messed up when I brought it to a very lively knitting circle, when I didn’t keep an eye on counting, and when I followed the written instructions instead of the chart. Finally I decided to pay attention, use the chart and get it done, it was starting to get really silly… I was so annoyed at one point that I contemplated knitting a load of socks from this yarn, but luckily (?) I persevered. I’m hoping the next part will be smoother knitting!

Striped section completed, nice to enjoy some TV friendly knitting for a while!

Important note to self:

Read instructions.
Look at chart.
Read instructions again.
Take another look at chart.
Now, read instructions again, and pay attention to what it actually says.

Follow these instructions as soon as you have unraveled modular lace section 1, and you might get it right… Gawwwh!

Carry on.

Also, turn the TV off during lace knitting sections. Ref. note above.

Striped section 2 is done, and it’s been a lot less fun project than I thought it would be so far. Stitch count numbers are very few and very far between in this pattern, and some parts of the instructions are quite lacking in detail. Like whether or not to include the center stitch in the upcoming lace section or to leave that particular stitch for the next striped section. No clue. And it doesn’t get mentioned in the Craftsy video either, which baffles me. I’m only continuing because I would be left with bits and pieces of yarn if I were to unravel, but it feels very uncomfortable to fudge my way through the project…

Striped section 3 + Modular lace section 3 finished, and I’m starting striped section 4 tonight. Not able to take pictures atm.

And she’s done! Ready for a soak and some blocking, and after that a photo session.

I’m very pleased with the result even if I had a few struggles along the way. Right now I feel like I could easily do it again because I managed to decipher the pattern, so I might repeat it in other yarns and colors sometime. Reading the pattern felt very busy, and the videos on Craftsy didn’t always do much to clarify either. Luckily there are some good photos on different projects on Ravelry, and I managed to use them as a guide. I wish the pattern could have been edited again to work better as a stand alone pattern.
