Notes

Long sleeve tips as well as an attempt to rewrite size 10 (the largest size) below.

“yfwd” means yarnover. “ss1, k1, psso” can be replaced with ssk.

This pattern is terribly written. Really difficult for me to follow. It’s an extremely quick knit, but holy cow could it have benefited from some test knitter and tech knitter feedback!

Not recommended at all for a newer knitter. I have been making all sorts of lace shawls this year and I had to post a question in Techniques asking what the heck the sleeve increase instructions mean.

“Working 16 row pattern as given for 4th size of Back starting with 9th row of patt counting first and last inc sts as one st on inc rows worked on Back.
Work 64 rows inc in st at each end of 9th and every foll 8th row, working inc sts in patt. 49 sts.”

If you can decipher what that’s supposed to mean without your head hurting, then this is the right pattern for you!

I even emailed Sirdar’s pattern helpline to complain about the issues with this pattern and received no response.

A 158 gram skein of Wollmeise ran out on shaping the last sleeve cap. I made a size 8 shrug with the lace pattern with longer sleeves than the pattern indicated, since those wouldn’t have been long sleeves, they would have been 3/4. I ended up using 16 grams from an additional skein of Wollmeise! Be warned that if you make the long sleeve version, you need more yarn than the pattern says.

For the long sleeves: Do yourselves a favor. Try this.

Using 4mm needles and a stretchy method, cast on 29:33:33:35:39 sts. Join in the round.
Work in pattern, starting with pattern row 1, increasing by 1 st every 4th row until you have 45:49:51:57:63 sts, then work without increases until reaching 68:82:92:104:114 rows.
Continue working in pattern until sleeve reaches 9.5”: 11.5”: 13”: 14.5”:16” or desired length to underarm. End with last row an even, or purl, row.
When switching to “Shape Sleeve Top” section, begin working back and forth.

I have made the following modifications for the largest (5th) size in order to work in one piece until the armhole separation. I haven’t tested this out yet, but if there are changes I will note them.
