Notes

Prototype gansey inspired ‘British Driving Cap’ to match the gloves- I’m jazzed about this project so far, still needs some tweaking but I love how it’s coming together! I can see many versions of this (elaborate cables, a big circular Celtic knot, intarsia knotwork ooh fun!) This design proposal, along with the matching gloves were accepted for a book, very exciting! I used a vintage ball of AS Scottish Fleet for this prototype, the publishers’s sample will be Rowan Purelife dk BFL, like the gloves…

I based this cap on a beloved 1950’s Iirish cap from Donegal that I inherited from my DFIL (grey cap in bottom 3 pics)- His name was ‘Craddock Matthew Gilmour’, so in my mind this is the ‘Crad Hat’…

Note- top 5 photos are blocked, lower photos are not (makes a HUGE difference!) I found the perfect basket to block this on- I still need to stiffen the brim (think I’ll use plastic canvas for that) & install the brim snap…
