Woodstack mittens

Project info
Woodstack Mittens by Jane Richmond
Grandma Donna
large, with mods
Needles & yarn
US 6 - 4.0 mm
Stonehedge Fiber Mill Shepherd's Wool Worsted
0.55 skeins = 137.5 yards (125.7 meters), 62 grams
  • Using leftover yarn from my Lila pullover
  • Only one size needle--going up a size for the cuff to make them easier for her to pull on, and going down a size for the hand (I always have loose tension) and I’m hoping for a slightly-smaller-than-large size (even as I follow the numbers for a large)
  • Using the numbers indicated for size small length, so that they’re not too long and floppy.

  • 12 purl ridges before beginning shaping for top of mitten followed directions for mitten top decreases
  • 3 needle bind off for closure of top of mitten
  • 3 purl bumps on thumb before closing off the top (to fit my thumb and likely my grandma’s thumb)

Second mitten finished! A quick knit with an extremely satisfying FO. :)
