Yarn: Each of these colours on its own is a knockout. When you put them together, real colour magic happens as they become almost utterly different shades. I purchased as a kit from Magpie Fibers as I would never have been brave enough to mix these. Trust the indie dyers who know their colours. It is a very daring blend for me! I honestly though to make this design using some icy, Nordic palette but when the colours arrived - voilà - a Northern forest scape. I saw these colours everywhere around me. Hope the photos do them justice.
Pattern: Lots of fun with lots of stuff going on all the time. A bit of cables, a bit of colourwork, increases galore. Very clearly presented, very succinct, it really knit up fast.
I used 4,0mm for the project, colourwork and all; 3,5mm for all ribs. Amazing yarn for this project - fun project for this yarn!
Mods: I look terrible in cropped anything so I had to lengthen the body and played yarn chicken with the main colour - and still had 9 grams left over. Amazing. My finished underarm & sleeve lengths are 35cm, with a total back length of 57cm. Used as much of the Smoke & Mirrors (C1) as I dared and added rows in the Selkie colourwork sections (C2) to avoid disrupting the stranded work designs.
Amazing Discovery: I am still amazed that I was able to achieve 20 st in the body section with a fingering weight, even in the colourwork section without a needle size change. The sleeves are knit at about 22 st (smaller circumference stress knitting, methinks). I kept a relax mantra running through my head the entire time but I don’t know how you can achieve this miracle every single time for a fingering yarn-to-worsted tension. Could I be lucky a second time?
