Notes

This was originally intended to have a Fairisle yoke but in the end I just wanted to be able to wear it! As it was it took me very nearly 2 years to make. Fit isn’t too bad, but feels a little high at the front of the neck, and is a little bulky under the arms.

Now that the weather has turned cold I’m wearing this loads and finding it really comfortable and cosy.

Notes during working

K = 6.25 sts per inch x 42 (required widest measurement in inches)
K = 262.5

Marker is on back

Body
Co 236 stitches (90% of K), k1 p1 rib
After ribbing change to knit and increase to 262 stitches.
K until measures about 15 inches (err on generous side)
Put 24 stitches (8% of K?) on waste yarn on each side directly above “side seam”

Sleeves
CO 52 sts, k1 p1 rib (17 rows of ribbing?)
Change to k. Mark 3sts for underarm and inc. on either side of these on every 6th row until have 94 sts
then knit straight to 18 inches (which is 140 rows of stst after cuff)
Put 24 sts on waste yarn centred above increases.

Joining
K across body, match underarm sts and on same needle knit across sleeve sts - then repeat for other arm.

Yoke
K 4 more rows around (this probably wasn’t necessary as a bit too much fabric under arms)
Yoke short rows - k 12 sts past left-front sleeve/body join.
wrap and turn and purl back to same spot on front right.
Wrap and turn and knit back to within 3 or 4 sts of 1st wrap
Repeat from
a total of 3 times. (6 extra rows across back only) (might have been a good idea to do this one more time)
Decreases -
(need to decease 250 sts, down to ≈ 40% of K = 105sts)
After short rows knit 1 row then, on alternate rows -
starting at left back marker, move marker back 2, then at each marker:
ssk the 2 sts before marker, k3, k2tog
Complete a total of 63 rows in this way.

Then 3 sets of short rows, still decreasing on k rows.

Finish with k1 p1 rib as required.
