Crochet Stitch Glossary
STITCH GLOSSARY
esc (extended single crochet) = Insert hook in indicated st, yo and pull up loop, yo and pull through 1 loop on hook, yo and pull through 2 loops on hook.
Twisted sc = Insert hook in next
stitch. Bring hook over yarn instead of yarn over hook and pull up a loop. Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook.

Hdchb = Work 1 hdc into horizontal bar created below in previous row (bar is below loops normally worked on WS)
Front-Post DC (Dcfp) = Yoh and draw up a loop around post of next st at front of work inserting hook from right to left. (Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice - 1 dcfp made.
Back-Post DC (Dcbp) = Yoh and draw up a loop around post of next st at back of work inserting hook from right to left. (Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice - 1 dcbp made.
Front post single crochet:
Insert your hook from the front around the post of given stitch, from right to left, yarn over and finish single crochet as usual.
Front post half double crochet:
Yarn over, insert your hook from the front around the post of given stitch, from right to left, yarn over and finish your half double crochet as usual.
Front post double crochet:
Yarn over, insert your hook from the front around the post of given stitch, from right to left, yarn over and finish your double crochet as usual.
WR DC—Wrapped DC Stitch = Skip a stitch, Dc in next stitch, then work your next DC around the post of the DC you just made
Grit Stitch
Row 1: Ch 1, turn, dc in first st, ! sk next st, (sc, dc) in next st; rep from ! to last st, sk next st, sc in beg ch-1.
Rep Row 1 for Grit St pattern.
X-st: Skip next st, dc into next st, cross back and dc into skipped st; 1 X-st made.
Bobble = (Yoh and draw up a loop) 3 times. Yoh and draw through 6 loops on hook. YOH and draw through 2 loops on hook – bobble made. Ch 2.
Puff Stitch (puffst): (yarn over, pull up a loop) 3x in same st/ch-sp, yarn over, pull through all loops on hook
Pc (popcorn stitch): Work 3 dc into the next st, drop the loop from the hook, insert your hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first double crochet of the group; 1 pc made.
Popcorn = 5 dc in the indicated st; drop the loop from the hook; reinsert the hook in the first dc of the 5-dc group, pick up the dropped loop and pull it through the first dc.
Bean Stitch - Insert hook in next st, yo and pull up a loop (2 loops on hook), yo in same stitch and pull up a loop (4 loops on hook), yo in same stitch once more and pull up a loop (6 loops on hook), yo and pull through all 6 loops on hook, ch 1 to complete stitch.
Mini Bean Stitch - Insert hook into st indicated, yarn over and pull up a loop. Yarn over and insert hook into the same st, yarn over and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through all 4 loops on your hook.
Berry Stitch
YO, insert hook in indicated st, YO, pull up lp, YO, pull through one lp, YO, insert hook in same st, YO, pull up lp through, YO, pull all 5 lps on the hook.
Mesh Stitch
CHAIN Even number
ROW 1 Starting in the 2nd chain from the hook, work 1 SC. !CH 1. Skip one chain, SC in next CH, Repeat from ! across the row, ending with 1 SC into the last CH. CH 1 and turn.
ROW 2 Starting in the 1st stitch, SC into SC of previous row. !CH 1, skip the chain space, SC into the next SC. Repeat from ! across the row, ending with 1 SC into the last SC. CH 1 and turn.

Even Moss Stitch
CHAIN Even number
ROW 1 Starting in the 2nd chain from hook, !work 1 SL ST (insert your hook, YO, pull up a loop, pull directly through loop on hook). 1 HDC into the next chain. Repeat from ! across the row ending with 1 SL ST into the final chain. CH 1 and turn.
ROW 2 Starting in the first stitch, !work 1 SL ST. HDC into the next stitch. Repeat from ! across the row, ending with 1 SL ST into the final SL ST. CH 1 and turn. (Always SL ST into a SL ST. Always HDC into a HDC.)

Wattle Stitch
CHAIN Multiple of 3
ROW 1 Starting in the 3rd chain from the hook, !work SC, CH 1, DC. Skip two chains. Repeat from ! across the row. When 3 chains remain, skip 2 chains and work 1 SC into the last chain. CH 2 and turn.
ROW 2 Skipping the first two stitches, start in the first chain space with !SC, CH 1, DC into the same chain space. Skip two stitches. Repeat from ! across the row ending with 1 SC in turning chain. CH 2 and turn.

Spider Stitch
CHAIN Odd number
ROW 1 In the 3rd chain from the hook, work SC, CH 1, SC. !Skip one chain, then SC, CH 1, SC into the next chain. Repeat from ! across the row until 2 chains remain. Skip 1 chain, then end in the final chain with 1 SC. CH 2 and turn.
ROW 2 In the first chain one space of the previous row, work SC, CH 1, SC. !Skip 2 stitches, then work SC, CH 1, SC into the next chain 1 space. Repeat from ! across the row ending with 1 SC in the top of the turning chain (or into the space made by the turning chain if that is easier.) CH 2 and turn.

Sedge Stitch
CHAIN Multiple of 3
ROW 1 In the 2nd chain from the hook, work 1 HDC and 1 DC. !Skip two chains. In the next chain work SC, HDC, DC. Repeat from ! across the row until there is one chain left. Work 1 SC into the final chain. CH 1 and turn.
ROW 2 Work 1 HDC and 1 DC into the top of the SC of the previous row. !Skip two stitches, then SC, HDC, DC into the next stitch. Repeat from ! across the row ending in the last stitch with 1 SC. CH 1 and turn.

Pike Stitch
CHAIN Odd number
ROW 1 Starting in the 5th chain from the hook, !work 1 extended single crochet (ESC), CH 1, skip 1 chain, repeat from ! across the row, ending in the last chain with 1 ESC. CH 3 and turn.
ROW 2 Starting in the 2nd ESC, work 1 ESC. !CH 1, skip one, 1 ESC in next ESC. Repeat from ! across the row working your last ESC in top of turning chain (or in the space the turning chain made if easier.) CH 3 and turn.
REPEAT ROW 2
Bobble Cluster = {(Yoh and draw up a loop) 3 times. Yoh and draw through 6 loops on hook. YOH and draw through 2 loops on hook – bobble made. Ch 2. Bobble} all in next st.
MESH CLUSTERS
Note • 3-dc cluster = Yarn over, insert the hook in the indicated st and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on the hook 3 times in same st, yarn over and draw through all 4 loops on the hook.
Chain a multiple of 3 + 2.
Foundation Row 1 (RS): 3-dc cluster in the eight ch from the hook, !ch 2, skip the next 2 ch, 3-dc cluster in the next ch; repeat from the ! across, ending with ch 2, skip the next 2 ch, dc in the last ch, turn.
Foundation Row 2: Ch 1, sc in the first dc, !2 sc in the next ch-2 sp, sc in the next cluster; repeat from the ! across, ending with 2 sc under the turning-ch, sc in the third ch of the turning-ch, turn.
Row 1 (RS): Ch 5 (counts as dc, ch 2 here and throughout), skip the first 3 sc, !3-dc cluster in the next sc, ch 2, skip the next 2 sc; repeat from the ! across, ending with dc in the last sc, turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in the first dc, !2 sc in the next ch-2 sp, sc in the next cluster; repeat from the ! across, ending with 2 sc under the turning-ch, sc in the third ch of the turning-ch, turn.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for the pattern.
CHECKERBOARD LACE
Chain a multiple of 4 + 3.
Foundation Row 1 (WS): Sc in the second ch from hook and in the next ch, !ch 2, skip the next 2 ch, sc in each of the next 2 ch; repeat from the ! across, turn.
Foundation Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), skip the first sc, dc in the next sc, !ch 2, skip the next 2 ch, dc in each of the next 2 sc; repeat from the ! across, turn.
Row 1 (WS): Ch 1, sc in each of the first 2 dc, !ch 2, sc in each of the next 2 dc; repeat from the ! across, ending with ch 2, sc in the next dc, sc in the top of the turning-ch-3, turn.
Row 2: Ch 3, skip the first sc, dc in the next sc, !ch 2, dc in each of the next 2 sc; repeat from the ! across, turn.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for the pattern.
SIEVE (Eyelet) PATTERN
Chain a multiple of 3 + 2.
Foundation Row (WS): Sc in the second ch from the hook, !ch 3, skip the next 2 ch, sc in the next ch; repeat from the ! across, turn.
Row 1 (RS): Ch 1, !5 sc in the next ch-3 sp; repeat from the ! across, ending with 4 sc in the last ch-3 sp, sc in the last sc, turn.
Row 2: Ch 5 (counts as dc, ch 2 here and throughout), skip the first 2 sc, !sc in the next sc, ch 3, skip the next 4 sc; repeat from the ! across, ending with sc in the next sc, ch 2, dc in the last sc, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in the first dc, 2 sc in the next ch-2 sp, !5 sc in the next ch-3 sp; repeat from the ! across, ending with 2 sc under the turning-ch-5, sc in the third ch of the turning-ch-5, turn.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in the first sc, !ch 3, skip the next 4 sc, sc in the next sc; repeat from the ! across, turn.
Repeat Rows 1-4 for the pattern.
BUTTONHOLE PATTERN
Chain a multiple of 5 + 2.
Foundation Row (RS): Hdc in the third ch from the hook and in each ch across, turn.
Row 1 (WS): Ch 2 (counts as hdc here and throughout), skip the first hdc, hdc in each hdc across, ending with hdc in the top of the turning-ch-2, turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in the first hdc, !ch 4, skip the next 4 hdc, sc in the next hdc; repeat from the ! across, ending with ch 4, skip the next 4 hdc, sc in the top of the turning-ch-2, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in the first sc, !4 sc in the next ch-4 sp, sc in the next sc; repeat from the ! across, turn.
Row 4: As Row 1, turn.
Repeat Rows 1-4 for the pattern.
Waistcoat St = Split SC = Center SC (CSC)
WC (Waistcoat Stitch) –
Waistcoat Stitch (worked in rows with WS of previous row sts facing): Insert hook under the next inverted “V” between next 2 sts, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through both loops on hook.
Row 1: Ch 1, turn, WC in each inverted “V” across, sc in beg ch-1.
Rep Row 1 for WC pattern.
Note: This waistcoat stitch is worked like a single crochet EXCEPT that the hook is inserted in the inverted
“V” between sts instead of under the top 2 loops of a st.
Split single crochet:
work sc between ‘legs’ of stitch (splitting stitch) instead of through top loops
Split HDC (Splhdc) = Split half double crochet: work hdc between ‘legs’ at front and back of stitch (splitting stitch) instead of through top loops. Stitches should appear as “V”s on RS and WS of work.
Feather Stitch (FS) = !YO, insert hook into indicated st or space, YO, pull up a loop. Rep from ! 2 times more (7 loops on hook). YO, draw through all 7 loops on hook.
Starting Feather - YO, insert hook into first Ch Sp, YO and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), YO, insert hook into the Ch Sp directly underneath from the row below, YO and pull up a loop (5 loops on hook), YO and insert hook into next Ch Sp of current row, YO and pull up a loop (7 loops on hook), YO and pull through all 7 loops (1 starting
feather made, used at the beginning of every row).
Feather - YO, insert hook into current Ch Sp (the same Sp that your starting feather worked the last leg into), YO and pull up a loop (3 loops), YO, insert hook into the Ch Sp directly underneath in the row below, YO and pull up a loop (5 loops), YO and insert hook into next Ch Sp in the current row, YO and pull up a loop (7 loops), YO and pull through all 7 loops.
